I have appreciated the support from John Inger (Principal), the Senior Leadership Team and my colleagues. Everyone has been helpful and supportive. Learning the systems of Morrinsville College is not without it's challenges but I am getting there. It is definitely challenging taking over from someone who has made their mark - people don't mean to compare but it is to be expected.
One of the highlights for me this term was introducing myself to the young people of Te Puawaitanga (Maori whanau group). It was a little nerve wracking as even though I am Maori there is much I have to learn culturally speaking. However, introducing myself has been crucial in building my relationships with the Maori students in our school. As a result of this I have had a number of young Maori men and women drop by to see me either for counselling or to "check me out".
Another opportunity for me this term was an invitation to speak as the guest speaker at the Maori and Pasifika Academic Awards evening. This too was crucial to creating links between myself and the whanau of our young people.
I am still finding my feet but loving becoming a part of Morrinsville College!!
